Using a Website to Promote Myself
This website will be used to promote photography services provided by Lauren Krug Photos. The website will use key elements in order to promote the company and show what it does, including the biography and the portfolio. The home page of the website will be used in order to tell the audience who I am as a person and photographer, and give insight into what I do. The portfolio will be used to show the work I have done over the years, whether it be drawings, artwork, photographs, or writing pieces. It will show the diversity of the work in order to help show who the photographer is. In order to draw in the audience a very bold image from Niagara Falls was chosen for the header. Also, more neutral colors were chosen, as the company focuses on pictures that were taken in nature.
The social media projects tie into this project for many reasons. The main reason is that in order to gain clients, you should have a social media presence. Also, the WikiHow project helped with learning how to write code and make your images web ready. Coding is a very important concept, and the WikiHow project helped to show how very sensitive the coding language is. It is relatively easy to make mistakes; however, if one is made, the code is not going to work. The Twitter project demonstrated was how immediate social media is and it also taught us how to micro-blog. Getting information across in an instantaneous way is very important since social media is so quick. In order to attract your audience, you must be able to catch their attention in a very rapid way.
On the website there are links to Twitter and Blogger. These links will help connect the audience to the different mediums that have been used by me. It will help the audience get to know who I am more as well. They may begin to feel more of a connection to me, rather than just the photographer side, but at the same time they will be seeing the work that I have done in multiple mediums.
Overall, designing the website was a very fun and rewarding experience. The coding portion was very rewarding, but at times it was tough to complete. Sometimes the code in the portfolio section would just delete the images that were placed in randomly, but that was an easy fix. While trying to delete the video portion of the code, I kept accidentally deleting either too much of the code and messing up a previous section or I would not select enough. That got a bit frustrating at times, but after seeing the final product it was worth the struggle. The only other struggle was when it came to choosing what artwork to represent me. I was a bit all over the place on my website. There are writing pieces, photographs, digital artworks, and drawings. However, it felt important to represent every aspect of the work. Finally, selecting the header was very enjoyable. Selecting a photo that represented the overall aesthetic of my work was easier than expected. The photo represents who I am, and the picture was taken in Niagara Falls which brought the connection to where I live.
